Reasons to Foster a Pet

June 1, 2020

Did you know that is June is Foster A Pet Month? If you want to help animals, but aren’t ready to adopt, fostering may be a great option for you. A local Burlington, ON vet lists some reasons to consider fostering below.

Do A Good Deed

Pets may need fostering for a variety of reasons. Younger pets may need overnight or even round the clock care, as well as socialization. Dogs may need to work on their training. Fostering helps give these pets the time and space they need to heal and grow before finding their forever home. In other cases, pets need fostering temporarily as their owners are ill or just unable to care for them at the moment.   Whatever the reason, helping others can be very rewarding, and is something to feel great about.

Support Your Community

When you foster an animal, you’re also helping your community. You’re taking a bit of pressure off local charities and animal shelters. You could also be helping your neighbors by caring for their beloved pets. At times like these, that’s very important!

Distract The Kids

Are your little ones spending a lot of time at home lately? Fostering can be a great distraction for them. They may also learn quite a bit about how to care for our animal companions. Pets can also keep children entertained and busy. Plus, pets can be a great comfort in troubled times.

Short-Term Commitment

When you adopt an animal, you’re making a commitment to care for that pet for the rest of their life. That could be several years, or even decades. That’s a huge commitment! Fostering, however, usually is only about two months. That’s much easier for some people to sign on for.

Make The Best Of Things

We don’t have to tell you that this year has been rough. Sometimes all you can do is try to make the best of a bad situation. Helping animals is a wonderful way to make the most of your time, and focus your energy on something good.

It’s Cute!

Last but not least, you may find fostering quite fun. After all, you get to spend lots of time with a sweet dog or cat. Purrs and tail wags will never stop being precious in our book!
